The GST/HST Quick Method: Simpler Filing for Small Businesses — JCO tax tip card

Filing GST/HST the regular way means tracking every input tax credit (ITC). The Quick Method lets eligible small businesses skip most of that math.

Eligible if sales are $400,000 or less (worldwide taxable sales, including GST/HST). Instead of claiming ITCs on most purchases, you remit a flat percentage of your sales — the rate depends on your business type and province — while still charging customers the full GST/HST and filing returns as usual. ITCs can still be claimed on big capital purchases.

Less tracking, simpler returns — but if your business has large expenses, the regular method can leave more money in your pocket. Run both sets of numbers before you elect.
